Abstract
Accurate measurements of optical breakdown thresholds in liquids of interest as models for ocular media are reported, upon irradiation with single Nd:YAG laser pulses of different duration. Breakdown curves are characterized by a behaviour that varies with the pulse duration, with the liquid considered, and with the focusing conditions of the laser beam within the liquid. Physical and clinical relevance of these measurements to the technique of ophthalmic photodisruption is discussed.
