Optical Matter systems, particularly those created with nanoparticles, allow studying new optical physics phenomena, non-reciprocal forces and even many-body effects. This talk will introduce self-assembling nanoparticle-based optical matter machines and the inter particle electrodynamic interactions that give rise to structures that can do work. It will also introduce a new many-body mechanism for spin-to-orbital angular momentum conversion as studied by experimental measurements, electrodynamics-Langevin dynamics simulations and theory.
