Abstract
The desilting tunnel in the estuary of the Taohe River of Liujiaxia Reservoir can discharge the sediment of the Taohe River directly to the lower reaches of the reservoir, which is the fundamental way to solve the sediment problem of Liujiaxia Reservoir. The desilting tunnel has been built for more than five years, and a large number of measured data of desilting applications have been accumulated, which has created conditions for evaluating the desilting effect and the impact of the desilting tunnel. In this study, a one-dimensional numerical model of runoff and sediment is established to simulate the sediment discharge scenario of the desilting tunnel in the estuary of the Taohe River in Liujiaxia Reservoir and then analyze the effect. The study shows that the desilting tunnel in the estuary of the Taohe River can discharge a large amount of sediment from June to August every year, and that the sediment discharge ratio is positively correlated with the sediment concentration of sediment-laden flow in the Taohe River. Apart from proposing suggestions on the operation of the desilting tunnel, the study will also evaluate the effect of the desilting tunnel on alleviating the sedimentation in front of the dam, reducing the elevation of the sand ridge and the amount of sediment passing through the machine in the future, which can provide support for the safe and efficient operation of Liujiaxia Reservoir.
