Abstract
PLLA microspheres have a wide range of applications in the biomedical industry, for which there is a large demand for size uniform PLLA microspheres. While microfluidic technology has the advantage that the prepared microdroplets are uniform in size and process is controllable. In this paper, we aimed at microfluidic technology, and then carried out structure improvement design and Simulation of PLLA microdroplet fabrication for flow-focusing droplet generator aided by COMSOL simulation software. The simulation results show that the size of microdroplets decreases with the reduction of the width of the indented section, and the generation frequency of microdroplets also increases. While the variation of the length of the indented segment had little effect on the generation of microdroplets. On the basis of the simulation results, PLLA microspheres were fabricated in a practical experiment using the data obtained from the simulation. The results showed that the size of the microdroplets prepared by the microfluidic method was 60 um, with a CV value of 2.2%, and the size of the cured PLLA microspheres was 23 um, with a CV value of 2.5%. Compared with the conventional method, the microspheres prepared by this method have good size uniformity and the process is controllable. Thereby, the application of microfluidic technology in the biomedical industry is advanced.
