Abstract
In order to solve the operational quality problems such as high injury rate, low root removal rate and long residual stems in China's garlic combine harvest, and to improve the performance of root and stem removal operation for garlic combine harvester, a garlic root and stem removal device was developed. A three-factor, three-level orthogonal test was conducted on key parameters affecting the quality of root and stem removal, such as conveying speed, clamping height and clamping angle, through bench tests. The results of the bench test showed that the main and secondary factors affecting the quality of root and stem removal were conveying speed, clamping height and clamping angle, and the better parameter combination was conveying speed of 0.8 m/s, clamping height of 135 mm and clamping angle of 65°. In order to assess the field harvesting quality of the root and stem removal device, a garlic combine harvester was designed, and a prototype was completed for trial production. Through field harvest test, the operational quality of the root and stem removal device was examined in focus. The field test results showed that the device met the quality requirements for garlic combine harvesters.
