Abstract
Solar cells can improve their photovoltaic conversion efficiency and output performance through concentration, but due to the non-ideal nature of concentrators, the uneven distribution of light on the surface of the cell can have negative effects. This can be reduced by adjusting the ratio of concentrator spot size to cell area to decrease the non-uniformity of illumination. Considering the actual temperature effect, the light distribution, carrier generation rate, temperature distribution, and output characteristics were studied using different spot coverage ratio schemes. The study showed that under 200-fold concentration, the maximum power increased by 42.47mW/cm2 for a concentrator spot coverage ratio of 3x compared to 0.2x, with a decrease in total illumination. Therefore, in practical applications, it is important to consider both the intensity and uniformity of illumination and to choose appropriate geometric concentration ratios and spot coverage ratios to improve solar cell performance.
