Abstract

Professor James C. Wyant, founding dean and namesake of the James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona, passed away on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, in Tucson, after a valiant battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). He was 80 years old and had a deep and lasting impact on the international optics community and the field of optical sciences. His life touched countless souls and lives in a priceless manner. Someone’s life is so vast and profound that it cannot be encapsulated by a single person’s tribute. Upon the announcement of his passing, his colleagues, students, and friends left tributes at the Wyant College of Optical Sciences. Jim’s invaluable life is reflected in these tributes, which stand as the beautiful footprints of a giant.
