Silicon field emitter arrays are a promising new cold-cathode technology which can offer high absolute currents, current density and excellent temporal resolution. Progress in developing silicon field emitter arrays as a platform technology to demonstrate compact, high-performance and inexpensive x-ray sources will be discussed in this presentation.
