Abstract
In order to reduce the impact of cloud clutter on target detection in infrared polarization images under sky background, a target detection method based on maximally stable external regions (MSER) is proposed. Firstly, subtract each pixel of the infrared polarization image from the mean of the vertical and horizontal directions of the image. The non positive pixel is the cloud background, and the grayscale value is set to 0 to obtain the cloud clutter background suppression polarization image. Then, using geometric feature constraints, the final aircraft target detection result is obtained by setting a reasonable aspect ratio threshold and the contrast threshold between the target and the background, removing non target areas such as cloud edge clutter and ripples. Two indicators, accuracy and recall, were used to evaluate the detection performance. The experimental results showed that the clutter suppression and target detection methods studied in this paper can effectively suppress the adverse effects of cloud clutter on detecting aircraft targets in infrared polarized images under different thickness cloud sky scenes, and the detection effect is significantly improved.
