Abstract
A method for performing bi-dimensional solar spectroscopy by utilizing a narrow passband filter (NPF) is presented. The basic principles of the NPF technique are outlined along with a typical instrument setup. An observation program, collection of CCD images, and their correction are described. Advantages of the method, including the immediate use of spectral images for morphological studies, the recoverability of the line profile for every point of FOV, and the ability to follow the temporal variations of physical parameters by means of the cyclical sampling of spectral lines are analyzed as well as constraints due to the sequential acquisition of the monochromatic images.
