Abstract
The Sky View Factor (SVF) and Green Visual Index (GVI) have significant impacts on the urban thermal environment and pedestrian comfort, serving as crucial parameters for studying the urban thermal environment. Baidu Street View can be used to acquire high-reliability panoramic street view images, enabling low-cost environmental assessments of urban environments. This article proposes a method to measure SVF and GVI at the street level based on semantic segmentation processing. By analyzing the SVF and GVI of each street, we investigate their spatial distribution characteristics. Additionally, by introducing Local Climate Zones (LCZ), we take Xi'an as an example to explore the characteristics of urban thermal environments in different LCZ types. Furthermore, the large-scale and precise SVF and GVI data are combined with specific land use and architectural conditions of each block for in-depth studies of block-level thermal environments. The results indicate the following: 1) There is an inverse relationship between SVF and GVI in the main urban area of Xi'an, indicating unbalanced development in road greening. There is a significant gap in GVI among different roads. 2) The buildings in the study area are primarily low to medium-rise, with a predominance of open types. Dense, low to medium-rise buildings (LCZ1-3) exhibit higher heat island intensities compared to open, low to medium-rise buildings (LCZ4-6)) There are significant differences in the relationships between SVF, GVI, and urban heat island intensity in various regions. Additionally, SVF and GVI in different types of urban land use and cover areas have varying impacts on heat island intensity.
