Abstract
The comparative performance of two target-classification algorithms relative to the ultimate performance obtainable through comprehensive use of the spectral data base is presently examined through empirical upper-bound calculations for the case of X-band radar signatures of a variety of military vehicles moving in the 5-15 mph range. This analysis indicates that performance does not significantly change when the number of measurements is reduced to 2/3 the initial number. Target classification with the present algorithms is found to be restricted to favorable aspect angles only; the computationally simple algorithm based on the double-Doppler signal is effective in a sector of favorable aspect angles, if the signal is not masked.
