Abstract
A number of applications exist for which association of target tracks obtained from different types of sensors is required, and an algorithm to aid the user in performing the association is desired. Depending on the application, the association algorithm must satisfy a set of system requirements, e.g., minimum acceptable probability of correct association, maximum elapsed time for association after target detection or automatic track initiation, maximum acceptable probability of false track-to-track association, etc. Evaluation of such algorithms are usually conducted using time consuming Monte Carlo simulations and are sensitive to the scenarios chosen for this purpose. This paper describes an ESM/radar track association algorithm and an analytical technique to evaluate this algorithm which avoids Monte Carlo simulation. Closed form mathematical expressions for the probabilities of correct association and false correlation are derived. In addition, trade-off studies involving several system parameters are also presented.
