Radiation emerging from bending magnets in synchrotrons and storage rings is increasingly utilized as far-infrared sources. Such source can be by two or three orders of magnitude brighter than a black body at 2000 K, at all infrared wavelengths. On the other hand, the total flux (13 (number of photons/sec/unit bandwidth) is greater than that emitted by a black body only for wavelengths A, > 100 microns. With the aim of increasing the photon flux and of extending the applications of Infrared Synchrotron Radiation (IRSR), we have realized a beamline (SIRLOIN) where IRSR is extracted from an undulator .
