A 337-pm HCN laser scattering system with heterodyne detection has been developed for the study of microinstabilities and applied to the JIPP T-IIU tokamak (R=93 cm, ap= 23cm, Bt=3T). The low frequency density fluctuation propagating in ion diamagnetic drift direction has been observed in high density ohmically heated and auxiliarily heated plasmas. An effect of the ice pellet injection on the instabilities is also examined.
