A geomagnetic field is a vectorial
quantity. However, the single method of
conducting magnetic surveys is the
measurement of the modulus (absolute
value) of the magnetic field intensity T.
This is caused by the constructive simplicity
of the T-magnetometer and by the
possibility of measurements on a moving
carrier and by insufficiently strict, often
qualitative, geological interpretation of
magnetic anomalies. For measurement of
the vectorial geomagnetic field components
H and Z, there are necessarily more
complex measuring arrangements, caused
by stringent requirements for disposition of
magnetic sensors and platform stabilization
on a moving carrier.
