Abstract
The personal handyphone system (PHS) is a personal digital micro- cellular system that has recently been deployed in Japan and is being considered for operation in other locations. System objectives are to provide home, office and public access capability. This paper describes a four chip implementation of the PHS handset from Rockwell Semiconductor Wireless Communications Division (formerly Pacific Communications Sciences Inc.). It focuses on signal processing techniques which support the design of a low-cost receiver.
