Abstract
Laser-matter interaction mechanism related to surface ablation is discussed in this paper. The experiments on surface ablation included sculpture, different type of metals (corroded, painted, and tarnished) and artworks were carried out by pulsed laser with different pulse duration and wavelengths. The preliminary experimental results show that the ablation process was color dependent, indicating the ablation efficiency can be improved and the degree of material ablation damage can be decreased by selection of the most suitable parameters.
