Abstract
We present an extension of the equivalent optical waveguide method for analyze piecewise regular singlemode fiber optic waveguides with arbitrary refractive index profiles. This extension involves modeling the original optical waveguide by means of an equivalent optical waveguide with parabolic index profile for each regular section. In this case, equivalent mode-field diameter and parameters of each regular waveguides with arbitrary refractive index profile can be easily obtained. These parameters and Gaussian approximation of modes for each regular section are used for decision of piecewise regular waveguide integral equation. Numerical values were obtained and represented.
