Abstract
Provision of Quality-of-Service (QoS) guarantees is an important and challenging issue in the design of integrated-services packet networks. Call admission control is an integral part of the challenge and is closely related to other aspects of networks such as service models, scheduling disciplines, traffic characterization and QoS specification. Here we are concerned with two sub-optimal scheduling discipline [Start-Time Fair Queuing, Self-Clocked Fair Queuing] (STFQ , SCFQ) which are derived from the optimal scheduling discipline Generalized Processor Sharing (GPS). Using an easy and efficient discipline is essential for integrated services, which require specific QoS, and which ATM is mainly used to serve. An evaluation study is performed on a certain Call Admission Control (CAC) scheme. Also, a comparison between the presented disciplines is given.
