Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to verify a prior study of propagation losses in various environments for unattended ground sensors operating in the HF, VHF, and UHF bands. At each frequency band, tests were conducted and measurements taken to provide the actual range for these radios. Measured and predicted results are well correlated and help support the idea that for a network of unattended ground sensors, HF and lower VHF frequencies have better propagation characteristics in a wide range of environments than does the UHF band.
