Abstract
We present a method for generating a three-dimensional underwater map that is created in low visibility conditions using a diver with a wrist mounted depth gauge as the digitizer. Although the original sampling method can be sparse and prone to error, by extracting the depth profile from the dive computer and applying fractal image interpolation algorithms, detailed surface topology is reconstructed. This approach has utility for other seismic or remote sensing applications where two or three-dimensional imagery is to be reconstructed from sparse sample points.
