Abstract
This paper presents an automatic ship detection system by spaceborne SAR in coast region of the East China Sea. The system has the ability of automatic ship detection in SAR imagery and can give some information about ship, such as position, ship length, beam, velocity and direction. The work region of the system is the coast region of the East China Sea. A DEM database is used to separate land from sea and a CFAR algorithm is employed to ship detection. In order to validate the performance of the system, An experiment was conducted in the region of East China Sea in 2005, where sea surface ship observation and SAR imagery were took simultaneously. The results indicate the system has a reliable ship detection performance using Radarsat-1 SAR F2 mode imagery.
