Abstract
A logarithmic response pixel (often referred as 3T pixel) captures wide dynamic range images at pixel level. Since the 3T pixel captures images without the need of photo charge integration in principle, a continuous image capturing operation mode was widely used. Image lag was an issue of the operation. The image lag can be removed by initializing the sensing node (that is, by applying a reset signal to that node) since it occurs when image residue reminds in the parasitic capacitance of the pixel. Once the pixel initialization step is introduced, the pixel response becomes time variant. However this does not mean a loss of pixel sensitivity at low lighting condition. A high sensitivity can be realized by minimizing the capacitance of the pixel sensing node. In this paper, the reset operation associated pixel output response is discussed. The pixel output response analytical solution and easy to handle approximated expression will be derived. The analytical expression contributes to the 3T pixel based temperature insensitive image sensor design and fixed pattern noise correction (FPC) algorithm development.
