Abstract
UrbanScape is a cutting edge 3D collection and processing system directed at the lowest echelon of war-fighters and command elements that deal with urban environments. The goal of the program is to provide war-fighters, patrolling in an urban environment, with near real-time, up-to-date, high-resolution, fully textured 3D models of the urban terrain that can be viewed, analyzed and manipulated in an immersive environment, making target areas inherently familiar to the war-fighter. Through revolutionary model generation and facade reconstruction algorithms the UrbanScape system cuts the gap between data collections and fully processed 3D model databases from days to hours. In half the time it takes for a collection mission, soldiers are provided a fully immersive 3D model database making a foreign city as "familiar as the soldier's backyard".
