Abstract
Study of bend loss of curved optical waveguides is a fundamental subject in field of curved optical waveguides design and fabrication. In order to decrease the bend loss of curved optical waveguides efficiently, a number of strategies are proposed. In this paper, we give out a new strategy to reduce bend loss of curved optical waveguides by modifying its cross section. The principle of this strategy was discussed and the simulations using beam propagation method was given. This new method is useful and practical in design of curved optical waveguides. Especially, it is more effective in situations that the radius of curvature of the waveguides and the refractive index of materials were set beforehand.
