Abstract
Panel sharpening here refers to the sharpening of RGB content before displaying the content on panel, which has been frequently requested by different smartphone/tablet vendors. Although sharpening is a long existing topic, a few aspects of panel sharpening remain unclear, e.g., the optimal color space to perform sharpening for RGB input. In this study, we use unsharp mask to analyze the best color space for sharpening in terms of artifacts, light response, and multiple-to-one mapping probability. In short, the purpose of this study is to provide both theoretical analysis and real use cases for practical implementation.
