Journal of Nanophotonics

Editor-in-Chief: Takashige Omatsu, Chiba University, Japan

The Journal of Nanophotonics (JNP) focuses on the fabrication and application of nanostructures that facilitate the generation, propagation, manipulation, and detection of light from the infrared to the ultraviolet regimes. The scope extends to theory, modeling and simulation, experimentation, instrumentation, and application.

Scope

Nanophotonics has become ubiquitous in a whole host of applications ranging from optical interconnects and sensing to high-density data storage, computing, and information processing. JNP is pleased to announce a special section on chip-scale nanophotonic applications and other small-footprint and low-power applications, aiming to present state-of-the-art advances and to review recent developments, challenges, and opportunities in photonics and optoelectronics.

Areas of interest include novel optical materials, devices, systems, and applications for on-chip nanophotonics and their integration with silicon nanoelectronics. Topics of interest within this area can include the use of photonic, plasmonic, and metaphotonic structures for on-chip optical interconnects, new paradigms in optical computing, subwavelength light sources and their integration with integrated photonic structures, high-speed and low-power optical modulators and switches, heterogeneous integration of direct bandgap materials with silicon nanophotonics, and metasurface-enabled on-chip optical components and systems.

Review articles on the topics above that appeal to a broad range of audiences with different backgrounds are also welcomed. Authors are encouraged to present their recent research and discuss the technological challenges in these domains.

Potential topics include but are not limited to:

  • Subwavelength and nanoscale light sources
  • Integrated optical devices
  • Metasurface-enabled components and their applications
  • Reconfigurable nanophotonic components and systems
  • Plasmonic structures for sensing, interconnection, and
  • Novel device architectures for efficient on-chip nonlinear photonic devices (e.g., optical frequency combs, light squeezing, wavelength converters)
  • Heterogeneous integration of direct bandgap materials with silicon nanophotonics
  • Novel platforms for chip-scale quantum photonic devices and their applications
  • New hybrid material platforms for ultrafast low-power reconfigurable photonic devices
  • Integrated photonic systems with foundry-based fabrication.

Manuscripts should conform to the author guidelines of the Journal of Nanophotonics. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their manuscript through the online submission system at https://jnp.msubmit.net. The special section should be mentioned in the cover letter. Each manuscript will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. Peer review will commence immediately upon manuscript submission, with a goal of making a first decision within six weeks. Special sections are opened online once a minimum of four papers have been accepted. Each paper is published as soon as the copyedited and typeset proofs are approved by the author.
