I first became involved in laser processing in the mid-1970s, a time when there were relatively few books about the subject. Although the laser had been rapidly commercialized and implemented in manufacturing industries in the 1960s, most of the burgeoning information about machining processes was confined to internal company documents or scattered throughout miscellaneous conference proceedings and research journals.
