Prof. Dr. Franz-Josef Behr graduated in Geodesy from Karlsruhe University (KIT), Germany, in 1983. After working as software developer and a post-graduate study in Computer Science he joined Karlsruhe University, Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, as research assistant where he received his doctorate (Ph.D.) in 1989. The topic of the doctorate dissertation was in the field of digital photogrammetry.
From 1999 to 2002 he worked as a senior consultant in a GIS company. The main tasks where supporting the introduction of Geographical Information Systems, and the design and implementation of spatial databases and GIS applications for municipalities and power supply companies.
He joined Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences as a full time professor of spatial information processing in 2002. He is teaching software development, Internet Technology and Internet GIS as well as Database design, XML technologies and scientific writing. He has supervised about 40 Master’s Thesis. He published more than 40 scientific papers and gave several presentations at international conferences. In addition, he conducted workshops in India (IIITM-K, Trivandrum) and Egypt (National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, Cairo).
